As the Very Rev. H G Miller, The Mission’s Rector General, leaves at the end of June to accept a call to ministry in England, Apostolic Vicar Philip Jones has asked the Very Rev. Dr. Allen Hughes to fill the role of Rector General, pro tem.
“I have no doubt of Allen’s heart for The Mission and three stream church planting,” Philip says. “I trust him and his abilities, and I know he is gifted in coming into situations that require leadership and clarity. I believe he is the right person, for this time, and I expect Allen will help us move forward in our mission to reach the lost in this next season of our lives together.”
Over the past several months, a transition team has looked toward the future for The Mission in the areas of administration and staffing. Though they still seek an individual or individuals to oversee the finances, administration and day-to-day operations, they have not yet found the perfect fit. Until they do, Allen has agreed to oversee the running of The Mission office, as he is familiar with its basic strategy and administration.
Allen is honored and humbled to accept this position along with his duties as Counselor General. The role of Rector General is one of authority delegated by the Apostolic Vicar, and Philip has given Allen full authority in The Mission office, along with flexibility to continue to discern the correct path for administration and financial oversight. Mission staff members who are familiar with other responsibilities of the Rector General will assist him.
“We continue to pray and discern our next steps forward, and all of us working together as the office of Apostolic Vicar for The Mission, ask for your prayers as well,” Philip says. “Also, keep H in your prayers as he and his family begin their new season ‘across the pond.’”
